A photograph taken in February on the Ichikawa Metropolis Zoo, in Ichikawa, Japan, of Punch, a child Japanese macaque, gazing affectionately into the outsized eyes of a stuffed orangutan sitting beside him, was among the many extra affecting photographs captured thus far this 12 months.
