Mark Cuban sold the Dallas Mavericks over two years ago and the franchise immediately went on to The Finals in 2024, but Nico Harrison’s decision to trade Luka Doncic in February 2025 has created a tumultuous period for the franchise. Cuban was sidelined by Harrison, who reported directly to team governor Patrick Dumont.
Cuban has been increasingly outspoken about the Mavericks and this week has said he regrets selling the Mavericks to Miriam Adelson.
“I don’t regret selling. I regret who I sold to,” Cuban said in a teaser clip released Monday. “I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I’ll leave it at that.”
Cuban, who has been one of the NBA’s most emotionally invested owners, has said he didn’t want to burden his children with the responsibilities of owning the Mavericks.
“I didn’t want that for them. It can be abusive, a lot,” Cuban said. “If fans don’t like what you’re doing or if the team’s not doing well, you’re the worst human being on the planet and they treat you that way.”
The Mavericks were given a lifeline to recover from the fallout of trading Doncic when they won the lottery last May and subsequently selected Cooper Flagg.
Harrison was fired by the Mavericks in November and the front office is currently being run by Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi on an interim basis. When Cuban sold the Mavericks, he had expected to run basketball operations “forevermore.”
